Put and carried :-
1. "That the Committee of this Chamber be instructed to reply to the Colonial Secretary's letter of April 14, that this chamber advocates the Government making Chopped Mexican dollars, weighed at 7.1.7, legal tender in this Colony; such dollars to be whole and not clipped or pierced."
This resolution was carried by a majority of 18 members to 8.
2. "That while there is at present no inconvenience experienced in consequence of a too small supply of currency, it happens that such is felt, owing occasionally chiefly to the uncertainty of supplies from the Mexican mints. And, considerable time may elapse before the question of coining British Dollars will be fully considered by Her Majesty's Government, this Chamber is of opinion that, for the general convenience of trade, it is desirable to constitute American Trade Dollars, weighed at 7.1.7, a legal tender in the Colony, there being already current in the Straits Settlements, Foochow, Amoy, and Canton. This Chamber is further of opinion that the American Trade Dollar should only be so received as currency when unchopped."
